What these mean
- Open

- Closed
- For people who want to stop using drugs, and for anyone who thinks they may have a problem. If you are not sure that is you, an open meeting is the safe first choice.

- Gay/Lesbian/Transgender
- Run by and for gay, lesbian and transgender members.
- Wheelchair
- The room can be reached and used in a wheelchair.
- Children Welcome
- You can bring a child.
- No Smoking
- Nobody smokes during the meeting.
- Online Meeting
- Held online rather than in a room.
- Discussion

- Speaker/Discussion
- One member tells their own story, then the room discusses it.
- Topic
- One subject is chosen and the room talks about that.
- Book Study
- Reading and discussion from NA literature.
- Just for Today
- Reading from Just for Today, the daily meditation book.

Questions about NA in Iowa City
Are there NA meetings in Iowa City, IA?
There are 25 meetings within 25 miles of Iowa City, and the schedule above lists every one by day and time.
How many of these meetings are open?
23 open meetings, which family and friends may also attend.
What is the nearest town with a meeting?
Most of them sit in CEDAR RAPIDS with 16 and Coralville with 2.
Are there weekend meetings near Iowa City?
7 of them fall at the weekend and 18 during the week.
What time do meetings in Iowa City start?
The earliest starts at 11:00 AM and the latest at 8:00 PM.
Is what I say at a meeting kept private?
No. Giving a name is something you choose to do, not something asked of you. Members introduce themselves by first name when they speak, and a visitor can simply listen. Bringing somebody with you does not change any of it.
Do I need treatment as well as meetings?
Many people arrive at meetings through treatment, and many never go near treatment at all. Nobody at a meeting will assess you, and nobody there is qualified to. Going to a meeting this week does not rule anything else out.
Can I just sit and listen?
No. Most people say nothing at their first few. A speaker meeting is one member telling their story for most of the hour, which means almost nobody else speaks at all. Sitting near the back is a long and unremarkable tradition.
