What happens at my first AA meeting?
You can expect a room, a circle or rows of chairs, and coffee. The room will hold people with thirty years and people on their second day, in the same circle. Nobody will ask you to come back, and nobody will chase you if you do not.
Can I go to AA before I have stopped?
Yes. Turning up is the point, and the state you arrive in is not. Alcohol withdrawal is the one worth taking seriously: stopping abruptly after heavy daily drinking can cause seizures, and that is a medical matter rather than a question of willpower. You can leave at any point without explaining yourself.
