Is AA religious?
Not a religion, and not affiliated with one, though the language in the steps is plainly borrowed from one. The steps use the phrase a power greater than ourselves, and members interpret that as anything from a god to the group in the room. Plenty of people have made it work without resolving the question at all.
What are the twelve steps?
There are twelve of them, worked in order and usually with a sponsor. Nobody is required to work them in order to attend, and plenty of people go to meetings for a long time first. A discussion meeting is a gentler first visit than a step meeting.
