Questions about AA in Atlanta

What is listed near Atlanta?

Atlanta has 3 meetings in the list above, so it reaches out to 25 miles and picks up 8 in nearby towns.

Is there an AA meeting every day in Atlanta?

There is at least one listed every day of the week, including Monday, which is the thinnest day here with 1 meeting.

Can I go to a meeting in Atlanta if I am not sure I am an alcoholic?

Most of what is listed is closed rather than open: 9 closed against 1 open. Closed means it is for people who want to stop drinking themselves.

How many AA groups are there in Atlanta?

One group, Briley Township Park, and it is linked above with everything it runs.

Is this really all of them near Atlanta?

11 meetings inside 25 miles, which is thin. A.A. coverage in the public lists is patchy in rural areas, and a meeting that exists but is not listed anywhere is common.

What do people read at a Big Book meeting?

A text from 1939, which accounts for some of the language in it. A companion volume covers the twelve traditions, which are about how groups run rather than how a person stops drinking. The table above says which meetings here are Big Book meetings.

Is it a problem to be on antidepressants in AA?

Yes. Attending has nothing to do with what your doctor has prescribed. The literature is explicit that medical questions belong with a doctor rather than with the group. Nobody will ask what you take.

What is an AA sponsor?

Someone further along who agrees to take your calls and answer honestly. A sponsor is not a counselor, a therapist or a clinician, has no training and charges nothing, and the good ones are the first to say so. There is no hurry about it and no deadline on it.
